How we move can influence comfort, pressure and function throughout the feet and lower limbs. Our assessment combines a thorough clinical examination with digital gait and plantar pressure analysis, building a clearer picture of how your feet function when you stand and walk.
Using Footscan pressure measurement technology, we can capture objective information that is difficult to appreciate with visual observation alone. The scan forms one part of the assessment and is always interpreted alongside your symptoms, clinical findings, footwear and individual goals.
Who It's For
A biomechanical assessment may be helpful if pain, discomfort or changes in the way you move are affecting your day-to-day activities, work, walking, running or exercise.
Recurring pain when walking or standing
Discomfort under the heel, arch or ball of the foot
Symptoms triggered by training or increased activity
Concerns about walking pattern, balance or asymmetry
Repeated pressure areas or difficulty finding comfortable footwear
Considering orthotics or reviewing an existing pair
You do not need to be an athlete to benefit from a biomechanical assessment.
The appointment can also be useful if you walk frequently, spend long periods on your feet, attend the gym, run recreationally or take part in sport and want to better understand how your feet are loading and functioning during movement.
If symptoms tend to appear after longer walks, changes in training, running or increased activity, we can assess your movement, footwear and plantar pressure patterns to help identify relevant contributing factors.
Many patients book because they are considering insoles or custom orthotics but are unsure whether they are actually necessary.
The purpose of the appointment is to assess your symptoms, foot and ankle function, movement, footwear and Footscan findings before recommending treatment.
Not every patient will need orthotics. Depending on your findings, your management plan may instead include footwear advice, exercises, rehabilitation, changes to activity or loading, temporary support, monitoring or further referral where appropriate.
Footscan is a pressure measurement platform used during standing and walking. It records dynamic plantar pressure and timing data, allowing your podiatrist to assess loading patterns, asymmetries, pressure areas and aspects of foot function during gait.
Results can be displayed visually and used alongside the clinical assessment to support treatment planning.
60-minute biomechanical assessment and clinical examination.
Not every patient needs orthotics. Depending on the findings, your management plan may include advice, footwear changes, rehabilitation, activity modification, monitoring or referral. If custom orthotics are considered appropriate, this will be discussed with you after the assessment before anything is ordered.
Where clinically indicated, we can prescribe Phits custom 3D printed orthotics. Phits are designed using Footscan gait data together with your podiatrist’s clinical assessment and prescription. The design can be tailored to your movement pattern, footwear and clinical needs.
Transparent Pricing
The £150 assessment is payable whether or not orthotics are prescribed. The £420 orthotic fee is only charged if you and your podiatrist decide to proceed with custom Phits following the assessment.
Book Your Assessment
Not necessarily. The purpose of the assessment is to understand the likely contributors to your symptoms and recommend the most appropriate management plan. Orthotics are only discussed where clinically indicated.
Footscan is a digital plantar pressure and gait analysis platform that records how pressure is distributed beneath the feet during standing and walking. It is used as part of the wider clinical assessment.
No. A biomechanical assessment is required first so that any orthotic prescription is based on your individual clinical findings and gait data.
Please bring the footwear you use most often, including work or sports footwear where relevant, and any current or previous insoles or orthotics.
